Syzran Bridge

The Syzran Bridge spans 1436 meters across the Volga River with thirteen metal trusses supported by stone pillars made from limestone and granite.

Upon its inauguration in 1880, the Syzran Bridge represented the first railway crossing over the middle and lower Volga River, connecting central Russia with the Urals.

Professor Nikolai Belelubsky from the Saint Petersburg Institute of Transport Engineers designed this engineering structure, incorporating Belgian steel and Finnish granite materials.

The bridge serves as a crucial transportation link on the Moscow-Syzran-Samara railway line, facilitating the movement of goods and passengers between European Russia and Siberia.

During World War II, the bridge remained operational despite German bombing attempts, protected by effective anti-aircraft defense systems installed around the structure.
