Фанагорийские казармы, Military barracks in Basmanny District, Russia
The Fanagoria Barracks is a military structure in Basmanny District that combines Baroque and Empire style features with detailed exterior ornaments and balanced proportions. The building has a rectangular layout with interior courtyards designed to accommodate military personnel and their operations.
The structure was built between 1753 and 1757 on land where a physician's house had burned down. In 1827, architect Osip Bove redesigned it, giving it the appearance that remains today.
The building housed different military institutions over time, including the First Moscow Cadet Corps and the Fanagoria Suvorov Grenadier Regiment, which shaped daily life at this location.
The complex is currently undergoing restoration to become part of the Moscow State Technical University campus. Visitors should note that access may be limited due to ongoing renovation work.
The site started as a postal facility in the early 1700s before becoming a military installation. This transformation brought grand entrance staircases that reflected its new military purpose.
