Chelyabinsky Urban Pine Forest, Protected pine forest in Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia.
Chelyabinsky Urban Pine Forest is a protected woodland in Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia, stretching along the edge of the Shershnevskoe Reservoir. It consists mainly of native pine trees and has marked walking trails, rest areas, and zones set aside for different outdoor activities.
The woodland was given protected status during the Soviet era, when factories and housing developments expanded rapidly around Chelyabinsk and open land became scarce. That decision kept the site from being built over, as much of the surrounding area was.
The forest is woven into daily life in Chelyabinsk, where people walk, jog, and spend time outdoors among the pines. On weekends the trails fill with families, runners, and older visitors who tend to favour the quieter paths away from the main entrances.
The area has several entry points with parking nearby, and the trails are signed so it is easy to find your way around. The paths are most accessible in the warmer months, though the forest is open year round.
Even though the forest is surrounded by one of Russia's most heavily industrialised cities, it still supports wildlife such as foxes and various bird species. The woodland sits close enough to the city centre that some neighbourhoods can reach it on foot.
