Church of Peter and Paul in Lefortovo, Orthodox church building in Lefortovo District, Russia
The Church of Peter and Paul in Lefortovo is an Orthodox church in the Lefortovo District of Moscow, built in the baroque style with a cubic base, five domes, and a connected bell tower. A closed vestibule links the main building to the tower, which rises to 38 m (125 ft).
The current stone church was built in 1711, replacing an older wooden church that had previously stood on the same spot. This shift from wood to stone reflects a broader early 18th-century trend toward more permanent church construction in Moscow.
The church held regular services throughout the Soviet era, which was uncommon for Moscow churches of that period. Visitors who attend a service today find an active parish community that has gathered here without interruption for generations.
The church sits on Soldatskaya Street and can be reached on foot from both the Aviamotornaya and Baumanskaya metro stations. Visiting on a weekday outside of service times generally allows for a more relaxed look around the building and its surroundings.
A fire broke out inside the baptistery in May 2022, damaging a large portion of that part of the building. Restoration work has been ongoing since then, and visitors may notice sections of the interior still under repair.
