Цемесская роща, Natural monument forest in Novorossiysk, Russia.
Tsemesskaya Grove is a protected forest area extending roughly 2.5 km along the Tsemes River and covering some 126 hectares of mixed woodland. Several dirt paths crisscross the forest, connecting different sections and offering walking routes through the vegetation.
The forest received protected status in 1983 as a Category III Natural Monument. This designation was made to preserve the last remaining sections of ancient forests that once surrounded Tsemes Bay.
Local residents value this forest as the city's green lung, and the name Tsemes comes from the Adyghe language, referring to a damp wooded area rich with insect life.
The forest is easily accessible via several bus routes along Anapa Highway, with stops near multiple entry points. Wear sturdy footwear since most paths are unpaved and can be damp or muddy.
The forest is home to the giant Caucasian ground beetle, reaching about 5.5 cm in length, which depends on high humidity and minimal human disturbance for survival. This rare species serves as an indicator of the forest's ecological health.
