Yugansky Nature Reserve, Protected wilderness in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Russia.
The reserve covers 648,700 hectares of taiga forests, wetlands, and river systems within the basin of the Ugan River in western Siberia.
The Russian government established Yugansky Nature Reserve in 1982 to protect northern boreal forests from industrial development and environmental degradation.
Indigenous Khanty people share traditional ecological knowledge that contributes to conservation practices and biodiversity management within the reserve.
The reserve administration office operates from Ugut village, while guided tours require advance arrangements due to strict access regulations.
The reserve protects forty mammal species, including brown bears, wolverines, and forest reindeer, alongside two hundred bird species in diverse taiga habitats.
