Remdovsky Zakaznik, Federal nature reserve in Gdovsky District, Russia.
Remdovsky Zakaznik is a protected area on the eastern side of Lake Peipus in the Leningrad region. The terrain consists of pine forests interspersed with numerous lakes and swampy areas that define the landscape.
The area received its federal protection status in 1985 to preserve the natural surroundings of Lake Peipus. This decision aimed to safeguard the fragile habitats for the animals living there.
The name comes from the Remda River that runs through the area. Local people associate this place with the ancient relationship between land and water that has always shaped the region.
Visiting is best during the warmer months when the paths are drier and easier to walk. Sturdy shoes and insect protection are important since the swampy areas remain damp throughout most of the year.
The area contains more than 20 lakes that provide habitats for moose, wild boar, and roe deer. These water bodies are especially valuable because they support rare bird species that are otherwise difficult to observe in this region.
