St. Nicholas Orphanage, Catholic orphanage in Novosibirsk, Russia.
St. Nicholas Orphanage was a residential care facility for children in Novosibirsk that housed up to 50 residents ranging from early childhood through the teenage years. The building employed around 37 staff members, including sisters from a Catholic religious order who provided daily care and support.
The facility was founded in 1996 by the Caritas charity organization with support from international donors and was the first non-state orphanage in Siberia. It closed in 2015 as demand for private care institutions declined.
The orphanage gained recognition for its theater program, which allowed children to perform and develop creative skills through regular productions. This artistic focus made the facility stand out from other care institutions in the region.
The building is located in Novosibirsk and provided a structured residential environment with daily routines for its inhabitants. Since the facility no longer operates, visitors should note that access may be limited, though the building itself can still be viewed from outside.
The orphanage pioneered support programs that reached beyond its walls to help biological families of the children in its care. This approach to assisting both children and their families was innovative for the time and region.
