The monument to students and teachers of the Leningrad Mining Institute is a pink granite stele carved with three figures of Leningrad defenders. The composition shows the connection of these people to their city and their struggle against the siege.

The monument was built in 1976 to honor 185 students and teachers who died during World War II and the Siege of Leningrad. These losses demonstrate the educational institution's role in the city's defense struggle.

The monument displays a quote from poet Mikhail Dudin that invites visitors to reflect on courage and sacrifice. The names of the fallen are carved permanently into stone, keeping their memory tangible for future generations.

The monument stands next to the entrance of the Leningrad Mining Institute and is accessible to visitors year-round. It is best viewed during daytime when natural light makes the details of the reliefs clearly visible.

During the war, institute members produced explosives using blue Cambrian clay found beneath the city. This work made many of them bomb-making experts and combat engineers on the front lines.
