Alexandrino park, Park and estate in Kirovsky District, Saint Petersburg, Russia
Alexandrino Park is a historic estate and federal cultural heritage site in the Kirovsky District of Saint Petersburg. The grounds include several ponds, small islands, and tree-lined paths arranged as part of a planned landscape design.
The estate was designed in 1770 by French architect Jean-Baptiste Vallin de la Mothe and later came into the hands of Count Alexander Sheremetev, who gave it its name. It changed ownership and purpose several times before being listed as a protected heritage site.
The park takes its name from Count Alexander Sheremetev, one of its former owners, whose first name was used to identify the estate. Visitors can still see the layout of a classic Russian aristocratic garden, with its mix of open water, wooded areas, and designed paths.
The estate sits along Prospekt Stachek and can be reached on foot from nearby metro stops. The paths are open to walk through, though some areas may be uneven, so comfortable shoes are a good idea.
From 1828, the estate was used as a psychiatric hospital, a rare shift in purpose for a former noble property. In the Soviet era, parts of the grounds were turned into housing for workers at the nearby Kirov Plant.
