Neom, Urban development project in Tabuk Province, Saudi Arabia
Neom is a development project in Tabuk Province covering a 460 kilometer coastline along the Red Sea, bringing together smart infrastructure, sustainable energy, and advanced transport networks. The planned area touches mountain ranges, desert plains, and sea coasts, which together form several settlement zones and economic corridors.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman introduced the project on October 24, 2017, with an investment of 500 billion dollars. Implementation began with site clearance and the building of access roads and housing for workers.
Work camps housing thousands of international engineers and planners shape the landscape, while observers follow the gradual transformation taking place. Visitor centers present models and explain goals aimed at life in a new kind of urban environment.
Visitors must obtain registration and permission in advance, as the area is under development. Access is through the nearest airports or by roads leading from Tabuk.
The site sits at the junction of three countries and targets nine sectors including biotechnology, food production, and digital technologies. Archaeological sites from the second millennium BCE remain visible within the planning area.
