Kulturen, History museum in Lund, Sweden.
Kulturen is a history and open-air museum in the center of Lund, covering two city blocks with both indoor galleries and an outdoor section. The outdoor part holds historical buildings relocated from across southern Sweden, including homes, workshops, and a medieval town quarter.
The collection was founded in the late 19th century and opened to the public in 1892 near the cathedral. It was among the first museums in Sweden to present history through whole relocated buildings rather than objects alone.
Kulturen shows everyday life in southern Sweden through real houses, furniture, and objects from different periods. In some rooms visitors can walk straight in and see how people cooked, slept, and spent their days.
The museum is open throughout the year, though opening hours are shorter in winter. Comfortable shoes are a good idea since the outdoor section involves walking on uneven surfaces like cobblestones and grass.
When workers dug a sewer system under Lund in the 1890s, they uncovered a large number of medieval objects that were added directly to the museum's collection. That accidental find helped fill in what was known about life in the city during the Middle Ages.
