Västerort

Västerort is a large suburban district on the western side of Stockholm that brings together several distinct neighborhoods including Bromma, Hässelby-Vällingby, Rinkeby-Kista, and Spånga-Tensta. The different areas each have their own character, ranging from leafy residential zones to more compact urban neighborhoods.

The area became part of Stockholm through two separate expansions, with the eastern section joining in 1916 and the western part added in 1949. This gradual growth helped shape how the city expanded westward over the following decades.

Västerort is home to people from many different countries and backgrounds who shape daily life in the neighborhoods. You can see this diversity reflected in the local shops, restaurants, and how communities use public spaces throughout the area.

The area is easy to explore using public transportation, as the neighborhoods are well connected by subway, buses, and trams. It helps to visit each neighborhood as its own destination, since they are separated by green spaces and each has its own local center.

Bromma stands out as a leafy residential area that even has its own airport, while Rinkeby and Kista serve as tech centers with modern facilities. These contrasts within the same district show the unexpected variety found across the western side of the city.
