Klara Church

Klara Church is a stone church in central Stockholm with a prominent spire that rises above the surrounding buildings. The structure was built in the 1570s and shows Dutch architectural influence, with a tower that creates a distinctive landmark in the Klara district.

The site began as a convent in the 1200s and was later transformed into a church. King Johan III commissioned the current building, which was constructed by Dutch master builders in the 1570s.

The church houses a carillon of 35 bells installed by Bergholtz Bellfoundry in 1965, contributing to Stockholm's musical traditions. You can hear the bell melodies ringing through the city from the street.

The church is located in central Stockholm and is easily accessible on foot from most parts of the city center. The area around it is busy with shops and restaurants, making it convenient to combine a visit with other activities in the neighborhood.

The Swedish poet Carl Michael Bellman is buried in the churchyard, a quiet resting place surrounded by modern buildings and busy streets. His grave remains a little-visited spot that connects to Stockholm's literary past.
