Kirsteinska huset, Historic building in central Stockholm, Sweden
Kirsteinska huset is a residential building with a red facade and white stone details located near Vasagatan in central Stockholm. Built in the late 1700s, it displays the architectural style of that period with carefully crafted ornamentation that marks the structure's age and origin.
Court architect Adolf Ulrik Kirstein built this structure in the final years of the 1700s near the Klara lake. Over time the building changed hands and purposes, moving from a private residence to an entertainment venue and eventually becoming Hotel Continental.
The house took its name from court architect Adolf Ulrik Kirstein and sits in an area long linked to Stockholm's artistic community. Its red facade and white details reflect the tastes of the era when this building played a role in the cultural life around the Klara lake.
The structure sits at street level and is visible from nearby Vasagatan, making it accessible for viewing its architectural features. The location is easy to reach on foot and offers clear views of the red facade and white ornaments from the surrounding streets.
Carl Michael Bellman dedicated his song 'Fjäriln vingad syns på Haga' to Captain Kirstein, who was his landlord at Klarabergsgatan. This connection reveals the building's link to Stockholm's literary and artistic circles of that era.
