Kirsteinska huset, Historic building in central Stockholm, Sweden
Kirsteinska huset stands near Vasagatan with its red facade and white stone decorations marking the architectural style of the late 18th century.
The building bears the name of slottsbyggmästare Adolf Ulrik Kirstein, who constructed it during the final years of the 1700s near Klara Lake.
The Swedish national anthem 'Du gamla, du fria' received its first public performance within these walls on November 18, 1844.
The structure underwent several transformations throughout its existence, serving as a residence, entertainment venue, and later as Hotel Continental with 150 rooms.
Carl Michael Bellman dedicated his song 'Fjäriln vingad syns på Haga' to Captain Kirstein, who acted as his landlord at Klarabergsgatan.
