Stockholm Central Station, Railway station in Norrmalm, Sweden.
Stockholm Central Station is the main hub for long-distance trains in the capital of Sweden, with several levels for platforms, shops and service areas. The building combines 19th-century elements with modern facilities, connected by escalators and walkways throughout.
Adolf W. Edelsvärd designed the original station building, completed in 1871 to serve the growing railway connections of the city. Folke Zettervall added the central hall and additional spaces between 1925 and 1928, expanding the structure to accommodate rising passenger numbers.
The central hall displays landscape paintings by Natan Johansson and John Ericsson, showing scenes from different regions of the country. These artworks form part of the original interior design and are often viewed by travelers on their way to the platforms.
Underground passages connect directly to the T-Centralen metro station and to several exits across the city center. Arlanda Express trains provide regular service to the airport, and the main hall is accessible throughout the day.
A system captures body heat from travelers to warm nearby office buildings and reduce energy consumption. This technology operates in the background while thousands pass through the halls each day.
