Gettlinge grave field, Bronze Age burial ground in Södra Möckleby, Sweden.
Gettlinge grave field is a burial ground from multiple periods stretching about two kilometers along Oland's western coast. The site contains stone ship formations, individual graves, and large stone blocks arranged in patterns from different ancient times.
The burial ground began in the Bronze Age and was used continuously for roughly 2000 years until around 1050. Archaeological studies show that people buried their dead here from the early Iron Age through the Viking Age period.
The site reveals how ancient Nordic peoples honored their dead through carefully arranged stone formations. Visitors can observe the ways burial grounds shaped community identity and spiritual beliefs of the time.
The site sits beside Länsväg 136 road between Klinta and Gettlinge villages with parking available nearby. You can walk through the entire grave field easily and explore the stones at your own pace without restrictions.
The most striking features are two limestone blocks reaching about three meters high standing near the stone ship formation. These distinctive stones set themselves apart from other burial monuments and suggest they held special importance.
