Masthugget Church

Masthugget Church is a brick church building standing at the highest point of Stigberget hill with a dominant tower. The structure houses a large altarpiece with religious depictions and a major organ inside.

The building was constructed in the early 1910s and marked the start of a new parish for this district. It followed an architectural vision that reflected the characteristic style of that period.

The church's name reflects the historic harbor district and its maritime heritage. Warm brick tones inside, combined with the windows, create a quiet and welcoming interior space.

The church sits on a hilltop with views over the harbor and is easily reached on foot. Keep in mind there are stairs inside, and it is best to check opening times before visiting.

Inside sits a large organ with thousands of pipes built in the 1910s that still functions today. This instrument stands as one of the most impressive examples of craftsmanship from that era in the city.
