High Coast

The High Coast is a coastal territory along the Gulf of Bothnia featuring steep cliffs that rise directly from the water and define its landscape. Forested hills, deep bays, and numerous islands create a complex natural environment.

Following the last Ice Age, this region began experiencing continuous land uplift that transformed the coastline over millennia. This geological process continues to shape the landscape and has created the terrain we see today.

Small fishing villages dot the coast, where residents practice traditional maritime skills passed down through families. Daily life revolves around the sea and its rhythms, creating a distinct local character.

The territory has trails and viewpoints distributed throughout its expanse for independent exploration. Information centers provide maps and guidance to help visitors navigate and understand the different areas.

The land here rises at one of the fastest rates on Earth, visibly changing the coastline over decades. This ongoing process makes it a rare place where geological transformation can be observed almost in real time.
