Skuleskogen National Park, National park in Västernorrland County, Sweden

Skuleskogen National Park is a forest and coastal area in Västernorrland that combines woodland with rocky Baltic shorelines. The landscape features granite outcrops, valleys carved by ancient forces, and dense forest layers accessible through marked walking routes.

The park preserves Bronze Age burial sites positioned where the ancient shoreline once stood thousands of years ago. These monuments show how communities used this coastal region long before modern times.

The forest represents a significant part of the UNESCO World Heritage High Coast area, demonstrating the geological effects of post-glacial land uplift.

The park has three entrance points and offers about 30 kilometers of marked trails for exploring forests and coastlines. The southern entrance stays open year-round, allowing visits in all seasons.

Slåttdalsskrevan Canyon is a deep ravine carved into granite through long erosion and stands as an overlooked feature within the park. This formation reveals geological processes that shaped the landscape over immense time.

Hidden places in Sweden

Sweden stretches from southern sand beaches to forests and tundra in the north. The country preserves records from several millennia: prehistoric rock carvings, Viking burial sites, medieval fortresses, and 18th century ironworks. The coastline includes limestone cliffs, archipelago islands, and wooden piers at small fishing villages. This collection takes you to historical places like Gammelstad Church Town, where hundreds of red wooden huts surround a medieval pilgrimage center, or the Stone Ship Monument at Kåseberga, where raised stones form the outline of a Viking ship. It also includes national parks such as Skuleskogen with its spruce forests and steep coasts, ironworks like Engelsberg where charcoal blast furnaces still stand, and museums like the Hallwyl collection in Stockholm. Visitors find island fortresses, peatlands, long-distance trails through arctic regions, and villages that show Swedish life from earlier centuries.
