Örnsköldsvik Municipality, Administrative region in Västernorrland County, Sweden
Örnsköldsvik Municipality is an administrative region in northern Sweden that stretches across extensive forests, coastal areas, and numerous rural settlements. The area sits within the High Coast region and combines urban centers with natural landscapes.
The current municipality formed in 1971 when Örnsköldsvik city merged with seven surrounding rural communities. The name honors 18th century governor Per Abraham Örnsköld.
The Hans Hedberg Museum displays large-scale ceramic works of international standing. Visitors can also find art exhibitions in the town center that document the creative output of the region.
The region is easily reached by daily flights from Örnsköldsvik Airport and via the E4 highway. The Bothnia railway line also connects the area to larger cities like Umeå and Stockholm.
The region has produced a notable number of professional NHL players despite its relatively small population. At the same time, ski facilities operate directly within the urban area of the town, creating an unusual combination.
