Alby gård, Botkyrka Municipality, Historic farm building in Botkyrka Municipality, Sweden
Alby gård is a former farmstead on the shores of Albysjön lake in Stockholm County. The property contains multiple buildings from different periods, surrounded by forests and walking paths in a quiet lakeside setting.
From 1895 to 1913, Lars Magnus Ericsson, founder of the telecommunications company Ericsson, owned this farm. During this period, he built industrial facilities on the site that transformed it from a purely agricultural property into a mixed industrial and residential location.
The main building displays Empire-style features reflecting early 1900s architecture. The structures tell a story of transition between rural life and industrialization, visible in the various buildings spread across the property.
The grounds are surrounded by walking paths that lead through the forests toward the lake, allowing visitors to explore the surroundings. The best time to visit is from spring through autumn when the paths are easily accessible and the landscape is green.
The site contains a drum mill constructed during Ericsson's ownership that represents a rare example of early industrial milling technology. Today this building stands as evidence of the interaction between traditional craft and mechanical innovation in a rural setting.
