Preemraff Göteborg

Preemraff Göteborg is an oil refinery in Gothenburg that converts crude oil into gasoline, diesel, and heating oil. The facility operates with a deep-water port connection that allows large cargo vessels to load and unload directly.

The refinery began operations in 1965 under British ownership and changed hands several times before becoming part of Preem in 1996. These ownership transitions reflected shifts in Sweden's energy industry.

The refinery represents a cornerstone of Swedish industrial development, contributing to 80 percent of the nation's total refining capabilities alongside its sister facility.

The location is reachable by public transportation and offers viewing points nearby where you can observe the facility from a safe distance. Direct access to the site itself is restricted, but the outer structures are visible from the water and certain waterfront promenades.

The facility's distinctive smokestack rises approximately 165 meters tall and serves as a visual reference point for ships navigating into the harbor. This landmark is recognizable from many locations throughout the city.
