Väderöbod lighthouse, Concrete lighthouse in Tanums kommun, Sweden.
Väderöbod lighthouse is a concrete cylindrical tower on Sweden's west coast, standing about 19 meters tall with an orange exterior and black midsection. The structure features a balcony and lantern room designed to guide vessels navigating the Skagerrak waters.
The current tower was built in 1964, replacing an earlier lighthouse from 1867 that stood on the same location. This reconstruction reflected the advancement of maritime navigation and the shift toward automated guidance systems.
The preserved lantern and lens from the original lighthouse remain on display at Nestorsgården in Fjällbacka, preserving maritime heritage.
The lighthouse sits on an island and is only accessible by boat, so visitors should check weather conditions and boat schedules in advance. Good planning ensures a safe and feasible trip to the site.
The beacon has operated on solar power since 2000, using a 6-watt LED light system that requires minimal maintenance. This sustainable design allows the structure to function independently while guiding ships in these waters.
