Statue of Poseidon, Bronze sculpture at Götaplatsen, Gothenburg, Sweden
The Poseidon statue stands 7 meters tall on a snail-shaped elevation within a fountain decorated with marine life at the end of Avenyn boulevard.
The statue was installed in 1931 as part of Gothenburg's 300th-anniversary celebrations, following the construction of a temporary wooden fountain in 1923.
The bronze figure of Poseidon by Carl Milles marks the entrance to Götaplatsen, where the Concert Hall, Art Museum, and City Theatre form a cultural district.
The monument includes wheelchair-accessible paths and remains visible throughout the year, with water features operating during warmer months.
The statue displays marine elements including a water-spraying fish in the right hand, a snail in the left hand, and a stylized mussel adorning the head.
