Svartklubben lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse in Norrtälje Municipality, Sweden.
Svartklubben is a lighthouse located on a small island east of Singö, featuring a cylindrical stone tower with a white exterior marked by a black horizontal band. The structure rises around 12 meters and now operates fully automatically.
The lighthouse began operations in 1819 using coal fires for illumination, later switching to colza oil and then kerosene as technology advanced. A Fresnel lens was installed in 1897 to improve the light's efficiency and range.
The Swedish Maritime Administration maintains this navigational structure, which received official recognition as a listed building in January 1935.
The lighthouse emits flashing light signals in white, red, and green that can be seen from up to 16 nautical miles away under good conditions. Plan your visit during daylight hours to fully appreciate the island setting and surrounding waters.
The lighthouse was once vital for guiding ships through the waters of the Åland Sea, helping vessels navigate safely around the island's challenging waters. Today the automated structure still stands as a quiet reminder of its importance to maritime traffic in this region.
