Fredells, Architectural structure in Sickla, Sweden
Fredells is a large commercial building at Sickla Alle 2-4 in Stockholm combining modern design with traditional Swedish construction methods. The structure served as a retail center until its acquisition by Bauhaus in 2019.
The company began in 1903 as Firma Fabian Fredell, starting as a lumber facility near Ostra Station. The business relocated several times over the decades, with its current Sickla location established after urban development displaced it in 2000.
The building shows how Swedish commercial spaces evolved from lumber storage to retail centers over many decades. Visitors can observe the physical traces of this shift in how the space is organized and designed.
The location is easily accessible by public transportation and the large retail site can be explored on foot without difficulty. The open layout makes orientation straightforward for most visitors.
The building was physically relocated from Sodra Hammarbyhamnen to its current Sickla site in 2000 to make room for a new residential development. This relocation was a remarkable adaptation as Stockholm underwent major urban transformation.
