Hammarbytornet, Telecommunications tower in Hammarbyhöjden, Sweden.
Hammarbytornet is a telecommunications tower standing about 90 meters high in the Hammarbyhöjden neighborhood of Stockholm. The structure features an octagonal shape with vertical lines and smooth facades on each side, giving it a distinctive geometric appearance.
Construction took place between 1983 and 1986 under commission from the Swedish National Board of Public Building. The facility was designed from the start to serve as a telecommunications center for the greater Stockholm region.
The tower serves as a recognizable landmark in the Hammarbyhöjden neighborhood and shapes how people experience the urban skyline. Its presence creates a visual reference point that residents and visitors use to navigate the area.
The tower is not open to the public and operates as an unmanned telecommunications hub. You can view and photograph it from nearby streets and public areas in the neighborhood.
The building incorporates special protective steel hatches painted in red, blue, and yellow colors designed to resist pressure from explosions. These unusual safety features reflect the practical security approach taken when designing this telecommunications structure.
