Hammarby gård, Residential complex in Hammarby Sjöstad, Sweden.
Hammarby gård is a contemporary residential building in Stockholm's waterfront district featuring wide balconies that face a central courtyard. The apartments connect bedrooms and living spaces directly, eliminating hallway corridors to maximize usable room.
The building was completed in 2015, marking the conversion of what had been an industrial area in the 1990s into a modern residential neighborhood. This transformation was part of a larger redevelopment of the entire Hammarby Sjöstad district.
The name references traditional Swedish courtyard farms, a connection reflected in the design through central communal spaces. Open floor layouts naturally encourage neighbors to interact and share the common areas.
The building sits along a waterfront path and is easily accessible on foot from multiple directions. The best views of the facade and inner courtyard are visible from the public pathways that run along the nearby waterfront promenade.
The structure uses prefabricated concrete components that were assembled off-site before being transported to the location. This construction method allowed for faster completion and created the distinctive concrete panel appearance visible on the exterior.
