Skanskvarn, Historic windmill in Gullmarsplan, Stockholm, Sweden.
Skanskvarn is an octagonal wooden windmill in Gullmarsplan built with white-painted walls and a traditional rotating cap mechanism. The interior still shows traces of the original grinding machinery and the operational layout from its working days.
Built in 1859 during Stockholm's industrial growth, it served as a grain mill for the expanding city and surrounding areas. By the mid-20th century it ceased milling operations and underwent transformation into its current form.
The name Skanskvarn refers to its original purpose as a grinding mill serving the local community. Today it functions as a gathering place where visitors experience the craftsmanship and working methods of a traditional mill.
The windmill is about a 10-minute walk from Tele2 Arena and is relatively easy to reach on foot. Visitors should note that operations are limited and parking is available near the site for those arriving by car.
A single family has operated this transformed mill as a restaurant since 1987, creating private dining spaces within its historic chambers. This blend of food service and preserved industrial space is uncommon in the Stockholm area.
