Sundsvall Bridge, Road bridge in Sundsvall, Sweden.
Sundsvall Bridge is a road bridge in Sundsvall Municipality that spans 2,109 meters across Sundsvall Bay with a dual carriageway. It forms part of the European Route E4 corridor connecting northern and southern Sweden.
Construction started in April 2012 using innovative foundation techniques with load-bearing steel sheet piles to handle the challenging bay conditions. The project reached completion in 2014, significantly improving connections across the bay.
The bridge takes its name from the design concept of Danish architects at KRAM Group, who called their 1995 competition-winning proposal 'Double Curve' because of its two distinctive curved sections. You can feel and see this defining shape as you cross.
Traffic flows smoothly most of the time, but expect delays during rush hours and in poor weather conditions. Checking current road conditions before crossing is wise, especially during winter months.
On Lucia Day 2014, roughly 10,500 people gathered on the bridge carrying lights, setting a record for the longest light procession ever held on a bridge. This memorable celebration remains a defining moment in the bridge's story.
