Hagastaden, Urban development district in Stockholm, Sweden.
Hagastaden is an urban development project in Stockholm and Solna that combines residential buildings, offices, research facilities, and public spaces built over a covered motorway. The 240-hectare site links different functions through parks and pathways that encourage movement between areas.
The project started in the early 2000s when Karolinska Institutet wanted to establish a research center in northern Stockholm. Over time, this vision grew into a larger urban development that combines housing, work, and science.
The district brings together researchers and residents in shared spaces, creating a place where work and daily life blend naturally. This mix shapes how the neighborhood feels and shows a different approach to urban living.
The area is accessible by public transportation and will eventually provide around 6,000 apartments and 14,000 jobs when completed. The design with open pathways and green areas makes it easy to walk between different sections and explore the various parts.
Norra Stationsparken allows residents to move through green spaces without crossing main roads. This park demonstrates thoughtful planning that anticipates how people will travel through the neighborhood.
