Kronobageriet, Stockholm, Historic industrial building at Sibyllegatan 2, Stockholm, Sweden.
Kronobageriet is a historic industrial building in Stockholm with three distinct sections built at different times. The structure features plastered walls and extended staircase areas that reflect its functional design as a large-scale bakery facility.
It was established in 1635 and operated as a military bakery until 1958, making it Stockholm's oldest surviving industrial structure. Its long operational life reflects the development of military supply infrastructure in the city over more than 3 centuries.
The name Kronobageriet refers to the royal bakery that once supplied the military forces. Walking through the spaces today, you can sense how the different sections were organized for the demanding work of mass production.
The building now houses the Swedish Museum of Performing Arts, which displays exhibitions on theatrical and musical heritage. Visitors should note that the original industrial layout includes multiple levels connected by the building's extensive staircases.
At its peak, this bakery supplied bread rations to around 30,000 military personnel stationed in Stockholm each day. This scale of production reveals the advanced equipment and organization that industrial facilities required during that era.
