Kungs Norrby, Former medieval castle in Brunneby, Sweden
Kungs Norrby is a former castle compound in Brunneby near Motala. The main structure features two square towers, a round tower, and two wings arranged around a central courtyard area.
Bishops of Linköping held this property as a religious estate during medieval times. It passed to the noble Vasa family and underwent major rebuilding after being destroyed in 1568.
The name comes from Old Norse roots meaning northern settlement. Today the stone walls and tower shapes reflect building traditions that were common across this region of Sweden.
The site sits at a strategic point where Motala stream crosses an old route. The location next to Norrbysjoen lake provides clear landmarks to help with finding your way around.
Danish forces under Commander Daniel Rantzau destroyed the original structure in 1568 during a raid. The owners rebuilt it less than 10 years later with a different layout.
