LM-staden, Residential district in Midsommarkransen, Stockholm, Sweden
LM-staden is a residential district in Stockholm consisting of narrow apartment buildings spread across multiple blocks with standardized structures about 8 to 10 meters wide. The buildings were constructed using efficient assembly line methods, creating a uniform and functional street layout.
The area developed in the late 1930s after LM Ericsson relocated its operations from Tulegatan to the new Telefonplan facility. Builder Olle Engkvist constructed approximately 1000 residential units between 1938 and 1940.
The Stockholm City Museum designated LM-staden as a green-classified area, recognizing its exceptional historical, cultural, and architectural value.
The district is easy to explore on foot, with wide streets between the compact buildings that create an open feel. Visitors should come during daylight hours to see the neighborhood clearly and explore the different residential zones.
The district combines cooperative housing near the factory with rental properties at Enbacken and includes self-built houses in Västberga.
