Järnvägsbron Årsta-Älvsjö, Railway bridge in southern Stockholm, Sweden
The Järnvägsbron Årsta-Älvsjö is a railway bridge connecting two stations in southern Stockholm and carries trains over the Årstaviken valley. The structure was built with modern engineering techniques to handle heavy rail traffic.
The project began in the early 2010s and was completed by the middle of the decade to handle growing demand in Stockholm's rail network. The new bridge significantly improved train connections in the southern region.
The bridge design by architectural firm &Rundquist incorporates 34 ribs and 19 T-pillars, representing Swedish engineering and architectural principles.
The bridge is part of Stockholm's rail network and can best be viewed from the nearby stations where trains regularly arrive and depart. Visitors can see the structure from the valley floor or from paths along its edges.
Ranked as Sweden's fourth-longest railway bridge, the structure rises to 17 meters at its peak and accommodates over 500 trains daily.
