Malmgården, Malmö

Malmgården is a large residential complex in central Malmö that combines over 280 apartments with multiple ground-floor shops. The structure spans many levels and includes attic studios along with a central courtyard serving as shared community space.

The building was completed in 1935 by Erik Sigfrid Persson and represented an important shift in Malmö's residential architecture. Its construction demonstrated the modern building methods of that era and helped shape the city's urban growth.

The name derives from a mill that once operated on this site, shaping the neighborhood's character. Visitors can still sense this industrial past reflected in the building's design and layout today.

The building features clearly marked entrances and is easy to locate near Värnhemstorget square in the city center. An underground parking area is available for those arriving by car, and the central courtyard offers open space for walking around.

The building's facade underwent renovation in 2019 and was subsequently nominated for Malmö's City Building Prize, recognizing its architectural value. This honor demonstrated that the renovation successfully balanced preserving the structure's historical character while meeting contemporary standards.
