Metropol-Palais, Movie theater in Vasastaden, Stockholm, Sweden
Metropol-Palais at Sveavägen 77 is an event and conference venue featuring distinctive red interior spaces and decorative details from its original 1927 architectural design. The building offers multiple rooms adapted for modern gatherings while maintaining its historical character.
The building opened in 1927 as a cinema with approximately 700 seats, debuting with the film Don Juan. It remained a movie theater after being renamed Lyran in 1932, until final screenings ended in 1985 when the property changed purpose.
The interior decoration includes Pompeian-inspired murals created by artists Nils Asplund and Jöns Thulin during the initial construction phase.
The venue is located near Odenplan subway station and is easily accessible by public transportation. Note that the space today serves only pre-arranged events and conferences, with no regular hours for casual visits.
The cinema unexpectedly closed in March 1985 despite remaining profitable, as the property owner reclaimed the space for other purposes. This abrupt ending during its successful years marked the close of an era for this long-standing gathering place.
