Pilane sculpture park, Sculpture garden in Tjörn, Sweden.
Pilane sculpture park is an eight-hectare outdoor exhibition space on the island of Tjörn featuring contemporary artworks among grazing sheep. The terrain is hilly with views toward the coast, combining art installations with the region's natural landscape and open vegetation.
The site contains one of Sweden's largest prehistoric burial grounds with around 90 visible graves and stone circles. These structures served as locations for legal assemblies in ancient times, showing how the place has been used by communities for thousands of years.
International artists create works displayed from May to September, bringing contemporary voices to the landscape. This rotating exhibition calendar means each visit offers fresh perspectives on modern art and its dialogue with the natural setting.
Pilane Heritage Museum manages the site at Hällenevägen 36 in Klövedal and offers guided tours through the grounds. Wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is hilly and you will walk between artworks and archaeological sites on foot.
Sheep graze freely among contemporary artworks and ancient burial sites, creating an unusual blend of past and present in the same space. This combination allows visitors to experience modern installation and structures thousands of years old at the same time.
