Stadsliden, park in Sweden
Stadsliden is a forest spanning around 160 hectares in central Umeå with spruces, pines, and broadleaf trees along marshlands and grassy clearings. The area has varied zones ranging from dense and wild sections to more open and sunny spots, connected by wide, well-maintained trails.
The forest was protected in 1974 as a nature and recreation area, separating it from the surrounding landscape. Its central location quickly made it accessible and valuable to Umeå residents for outdoor enjoyment.
The forest is known locally by its older name Gammliaskogen and holds deep roots in the community's identity. The moss-covered trails and tall trees create a space where residents reconnect with nature and away from city life.
Trails are surfaced with crushed stone and wide loops allow walking and running for all ages and abilities. Bräntberget, a neighboring hill, offers downhill skiing in winter and viewpoints year-round.
Large stones and rock fragments scattered throughout were left by glaciers thousands of years ago during the ice age. These geological remnants add raw character to the landscape and tell a story of the region's ancient past.
