Terrasstrapporna, Monumental staircase in Helsingborg, Sweden
The Terrasstrapporna consists of a wide granite staircase with two sections, featuring neo-baroque elements in the lower part and medieval-inspired towers in the upper section.
In 1893, Oscar Trapp presented a motion to the Helsingborg city council to create a connection between Stortorget and Karnan, leading to construction from 1900 to 1903.
The staircase complex incorporates different architectural styles, with uddevallagranite sections showing neo-baroque influence and helsingborg brick portions expressing medieval design elements.
The northern tower contains the Terrasshissen elevator, which operates with a conductor and transports more than 30,000 passengers each year between the different levels.
Three archways in the upper facade contain small waterfalls, while the medieval-style towers display regular patterns of holes mimicking historical scaffolding marks.
