Vårby, Municipal district in Huddinge Municipality, Sweden
Vårby is a municipal district in Huddinge located on the shores of Lake Mälaren with several residential neighborhoods connected through metro stations. The area has two stations today and will gain access to the Spårväg Syd tramway system in the future.
The area was once known as Wårby Hälsobrunn, a mineral water spa that attracted visitors from across Europe during the 1700s seeking healing properties. This historical use as a spa destination eventually gave way to its development as a residential region.
The metro station features a large Flora mural by artist Rolf Bergström, visible since 1999 and marking the neighborhood's connection to public art. This artwork has become part of everyday life for residents and commuters who pass through regularly.
The area is easily reached through two metro stations with direct connections to Stockholm's center. Keep in mind that the district is undergoing transformation with ongoing construction work planned for the future tramway system.
The district is undergoing a remarkable transformation at Wårby Udde, where the former brewing industrial site is becoming a new waterfront quarter with residential buildings. This redesign shows how old industrial locations in Stockholm are being turned into modern living spaces.
