Železniki Municipality, Archery club in Železniki, Slovenia
Eisnern is an archery club located in Železniki in the Upper Carniola region. The facility includes shooting ranges and training areas where archers of different experience levels practice regularly.
Železniki was first mentioned in 973, when Emperor Otto II granted the area to the bishops of Freising. In 1277 the bishops obtained mining rights from Rudolf of Habsburg, starting over 600 years of ironworking. The ironworks peaked in the 16th century, and Železniki gained market rights in 1575 and its own parish in 1622. The lower blast furnace closed between 1881 and 1883, the upper one in 1902.
The archery club brings together shooting enthusiasts from the local community who gather to practice their craft together. Members organize competitions and training days where visitors can watch or learn more about the sport.
The club is located in Železniki, a small municipality in the Selca Valley that is accessible from surrounding areas. Visitors should check ahead about training sessions or events to make sure the facility is open when they plan to visit.
The municipality's coat of arms, on a late Gothic shield, shows a blast furnace (plavž) flanked by two hand-forged nails, with a lacemaker's bobbin (klekelj) and a spruce sprig in the upper fields. These motifs recall iron smelting, nail-making, lacemaking and forestry. Ironworking began after the Freising bishops received mining rights from Rudolf of Habsburg in 1277 and lasted over 600 years.
