Sts. Primus and Felician Church, Medieval church in Jamnik, Slovenia

Sts. Primus and Felician Church sits at 831 meters elevation on a grassy ridge between Kropa and Podblica in northern Slovenia. Its Gothic presbytery contains 15th-century frescoes that show the craftsmanship of its medieval construction.

The church first appeared in written records in 1501, marking its early presence in the highland region. During Turkish invasions, its location served a defensive role in protecting neighboring settlements.

The church brings together people from neighboring villages during religious holidays and celebrations that follow regional traditions. These gatherings connect generations and keep local customs alive in the Carniolan highlands.

The church is reachable via marked hiking trails from different directions, with an average walking time of about 50 minutes. The terrain is hilly, so visitors should come prepared with good fitness and suitable footwear.

During Turkish raids, bonfires were lit here to warn neighboring settlements of approaching danger. This simple yet effective communication system connected scattered mountain communities when threats appeared.
