Mangart, Mountain peak in Julian Alps, Italy and Slovenia
Mount Mangart rises to 2,677 meters, featuring a three-kilometer-wide north wall and slopes descending into Koritnica Valley and Mangart Lakes valley.
Franz von Hohenwart completed the first documented climb of Mount Mangart in 1794, while Leuchs and Schulze conquered the north wall in 1906.
The mountain's name originated from the Old High German personal name Mainhart, first documented as Monhart in historical records from 1617.
The Mangart Saddle road reaches 2,072 meters in elevation, making it Slovenia's highest road and providing vehicle access to the mountain base.
Two distinct hiking paths lead to the summit: a technical route through Slovenia and an alternative via ferrata path crossing into Italian territory.
