Debeli Rtič

Debeli Rtič is a coastal headland on the Slovenian Adriatic shore with steep flysch cliffs rising between 12 and 21 meters above sea level, forming a distinct geological feature. The rocky structure creates a characteristic coastal profile with layered rock formations that define the local landscape.

The area was shaped by the 1977 Osimo Treaty, which established the maritime boundary between Italy and Yugoslavia along the median line of San Bartolomeo Bay. This agreement marked the location as a border point of geopolitical importance.

The headland holds traces of ancient settlement, including remnants of a Roman country house and evidence of early fish farming practices near San Bartolomeo Bay. Visitors can spot these archaeological signs scattered across the landscape today.

The location has disability-friendly facilities, showers, and a large parking area near the beach for easy access. Visitors should be aware that the rocky coastline is actively eroding and care should be taken when exploring the cliff areas.

The coastline at this location undergoes constant natural change through erosion processes that slowly reshape the land form. This ongoing transformation makes the site a visible example of the dynamic geological forces shaping the Mediterranean shore.
