Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta

The basilica features a three-nave interior structure measuring 12.25 by 18.30 meters, with a facade adorned by a small bell gable.

Construction of the basilica began in the 11th century and was completed in the 13th century, surviving the 1353 destruction of Muggia Vecchia by Genoese forces.

The interior walls display frescoes from the 13th to 15th centuries, along with marble balustrades dating back to the 8th-century Lombard period.

The basilica functions as the parish church of Muggia Vecchia and serves as the diocesan vocation center for the Diocese of Trieste since 2014.

The church preserves an ancient ambon and lectern from the Lombard period during King Liutprand's reign, representing rare religious artifacts from that era.
