Schloss Gutenhaag, Medieval castle in Hrastovec v Slovenskih goricah, Slovenia.
Schloss Gutenhaag is a medieval castle in Hrastovec v Letih Goricah featuring three round towers on its northern section and a wedge-shaped southern portion that encloses a courtyard facing north. The structure is organized around this central court, creating the layout typical of medieval fortifications from this region.
The castle was first recorded in 1270 and originally belonged to the Gutenhaag family. Over time it passed to the Holleneggern family and later to the Counts of Herberstein, reflecting shifting power in the region.
The chapel features decorations that show the tastes of the noble families who once lived here. Walking through, you can still see these details and get a sense of how the residents displayed their status.
The building now operates as a psychiatric facility and is not open to the public for interior visits. It can be viewed from the outside as a protected monument of local significance in the area.
A portal on the early northeastern extension displays two inscribed dates: 1616 and 1655, indicating different phases of rebuilding or renovation. These inscriptions suggest the castle underwent significant changes during this period.
