Bratislava Zoo

Bratislava Zoo spreads across hilly terrain within a nature reserve and offers visitors different paths through planted areas. The facility includes several buildings with indoor exhibits and open enclosures connected by walking paths.

The zoo was founded in 1960 and is one of the oldest zoo facilities in the region. Over the decades it has been expanded and modernized several times to provide better conditions for the animals.

The zoo presents animals from many of the world's habitats in dedicated areas. Visitors can explore enclosures designed to reflect African savannas, Asian forests, and other natural environments.

The zoo is best explored on foot, though the paths are hilly with several ups and downs to navigate. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow plenty of time to see all the areas at a relaxed pace.

The facility was one of the first places in Europe where endangered animal species were successfully bred in captivity. These breeding programs helped to preserve and rebuild populations of rare species.
