The mountain hut functions as a central meeting point for mountaineers, hikers, and researchers who study the local Tatras flora and fauna throughout the year.
The hut sits in a valley filled with mountain lakes and serves as a landmark for several popular hiking trails in the High Tatras. Visitors should prepare for alpine conditions and check opening times ahead of arrival.
Veľká Studená Valley contains the highest concentration of mountain lakes in the High Tatras, making the hut a special base for exploring these alpine waters. Additionally, the refuge operates as a rescue station serving three major hiking routes in the region.
